Are fixed braces for me?

This type of treatment normally involves straightening teeth that may be crooked or crowded and can close any gaps.

As well as boosting your smile confidence, braces can also be used to improve your bite, making it easier to eat, speak and smile more comfortably.

Fixed braces can be used for a variety of teeth straightening cases from mild to complex, however some more complex cases that require a wider range of tooth movements can benefit more from this type of treatment.

Some patients prefer the security of fixed braces, rather than removable appliances, as this treatment is more comprehensive and are being moved in a precise way by your dentist. You benefit from regular in practice checks where your dentists will move your teeth and track your treatment accordingly.

Traditional fixed brace treatment provides longevity as your treatment includes an undetected long term fixed retainer at the back your teeth, prolonging the success of your final results.

Teeth Straightening With Orthodontics

Children’s Orthodontics

Orthodontics is used to make the most of your children’s teeth from a young age. Providing a child with orthodontic treatment from an early age allows the dentist to spot early signs of , crossbites or overbites developing and treat with interceptive treatments. As with most things, the sooner you can start to treat it, the quicker it can be resolved.

The type of orthodontic appliance will be recommended on a case-by-case basis, so booking in an orthodontic consultation will give you a great understanding of what is needed for your child or teen.

As dental professionals, we believe in preventative dental care and encourage our patients to bring their children to the practice from an early age so get in touch today to speak to an expert.

How To Look After Fixed Braces

Hygiene – Brush your teeth, gums, braces and wires thoroughly after each meal and before going to bed. You might benefit from carrying a travel toothbrush. We recommend an interproximal or orthodontic brush to clean in and around brackets.

Hard food – Avoid foods such as popcorn, ice, boiled sweets etc. Cut up foods such as meats, apples, carrots and remember to eat sensibly when wearing your fixed brace.

Coloured foods – Some foods/drinks will stain the elastic (if clear) on your fixed braces such as coffee or tea and tomato-based foods.

Soreness – This is common for the first 2-4 days. If soreness continues, please phone for an appointment and any necessary adjustments can be made. Use the wax provided as a cushion to provide soreness on lips and gums.
