How To Look After Fixed Braces

Hygiene – Brush your teeth, gums, braces and wires thoroughly after each meal and before going to bed. You might benefit from carrying a travel toothbrush. We recommend an interproximal or orthodontic brush to clean in and around brackets.

Hard food – Avoid foods such as popcorn, ice, boiled sweets etc. Cut up foods such as meats, apples, carrots and remember to eat sensibly when wearing your fixed brace.

Coloured foods – Some foods/drinks will stain the elastic (if clear) on your fixed braces such as coffee or tea and tomato-based foods.

Soreness – This is common for the first 2-4 days. If soreness continues, please phone for an appointment and any necessary adjustments can be made. Use the wax provided as a cushion to provide soreness on lips and gums.
