Teeth whitening: what you should know about the world’s number one cosmetic dental treatment

Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment in the world. It’s not hard to see why; after all, who doesn’t want a beautifully bright, white smile? As more and more celebrities and reality TV personalities are showing off their dazzling pearly whites, so an increasing number of people are choosing to have teeth whitening themselves.

Clacton Dental Care offers two options for whitening treatment, and when you come in for an initial consultation your cosmetic dentist will help you to choose the best one to suit your needs.

teeth--whiteningThe key thing to remember about teeth whitening is that it must only be performed under the supervision of a fully-qualified dentist. This isn’t just a recommendation, it’s the law. As with any other form of dentistry, only a properly trained and qualified professional can prescribe whitening.

A dental hygienist, hygiene therapist, or clinical dental technician may perform teeth whitening, but only on a dentist’s prescription after you have had a thorough oral health check.

Again as with any other cosmetic dental procedure, teeth whitening should only be carried out in a healthy mouth. A dentist will treat any underlying concerns such as tooth decay first – otherwise, whitening treatment could be uncomfortable or even painful. So long as you’re in good oral health, however, it is a gentle and pain-free way of brightening up your smile.

At Clacton Dental Care we offer two options for teeth whitening treatment:

Home whitening

After a consultation with a cosmetic dentist, you carry out the treatment yourself at home. Your dentist will fit you with custom-made teeth whitening trays, and provide you with safe dental bleaching gel. All you need to do is place a small amount of gel in the trays and wear them overnight for two weeks.

Power teeth whitening

This involves using the Zoom power whitening system, and takes just one hour here at our Clacton dental clinic. Your dentist will protect your lips and gums and will apply a concentrated version of the gel, using a special light to activate it. All you need to do is sit back and wait!
