Importance of Attending Regular Check-ups
Why do I need a dental check-up?
A dental check-up allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you to keep your mouth healthy.
There are many problems that can occur with your gums and teeth and your dentist will try to help improve the issues you have and they will advise you on the best techniques to keep your oral hygiene standards high.
Leaving any problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future so you should go to your dentist as soon as a problem occurs so you can prevent them problem getting worse.
How often should I visit the dentist for a check-up?
Right after your dental check-up, your dentist will suggest a date for your next check-up depending on how good your oral health is. The time between your most recent check-up and your next dental check-up could be as short as 3 months and as long as 1 year.
You may also be advised to visit the Hygienist who will look after your gum health. At a hygienist appointment your teeth will be cleaned below the gum line, which is where plaque and tartar can build up and lead to gum disease if left untreated.
What should I do between every dental check-up?
You should try your best to take care of your teeth and gums between regular dental check-ups. Plaque is always forming on your teeth but you can help reducing the amount of plaque by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day every day and especially before you go to bed at night.
So, is it important to go more regularly to the dentist, even from a young age?
In our opinion, the answer is yes, you should try to go to the dentist more regularly even from a young age as prevention is better than cure when it comes to issues with your teeth and gums.
When you are young, you tend to get fewer problems so you may not feel the need to go as often. However, if you don’t go for a check-up for many years and a problem occurs and you don’t rectify the issue quickly, you may end up with bigger health issues.
It is better to spend a small amount of time going to a dental check-up regularly, making sure your oral health is okay rather than spending a lot of time and money to try and fix the problems that were missed by not attending regular appointments. We suggest visiting a dentist twice a year.
