How Your Dentist Can Make You Look Younger
So you’d expect to visit your dentist in North Harrow to get your teeth fixed but did you know that you may well be able to squeeze in a short session of facial aesthetics too? Dentists have been using Botox injections in the past to treat dental problems like TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint disorders) but many of them also now use Botox for cosmetic purposes such as smoothing away wrinkles on the face. You may find it odd that a dentist would offer such treatments but when you consider the lengthy training they undergo in facial anatomy and the fact that they are used to administering injections in sterile conditions, then it seems a natural progression. What’s more, since it only takes around 15 minutes of your time, then it’s easy to include such a treatment with a regular dental appointment.
Think about it. Your dentist may well be able to give you the teeth of a 25 year old but if your face is wrinkled and you’re definitely looking your age, then aside of undergoing surgery to make you look younger, Botox is a very good alternative.
So what is Botox exactly?
Botox is a refined protein which comes from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium and is used to temporarily reduce frowns and wrinkle lines in a non-surgical treatment. The treatment should be painless and involves using a very fine needle to insert small amounts of the toxin into those muscles which cause expression lines. It works by de-activating the muscles that cause facial lines by blocking out the signals that the nerves send to the injected muscles, by means of what is in effect temporary paralysis. The entire procedure should take no more than 10-20 minutes depending on the experience of the dental professional and the number of areas that need treating. Some patients may feel a slight scratch but there should be no other pain whatsoever.
How soon will I see the results?
Most people see an improvement in the frown lines between their eyebrows within two to three days and can expect to see the full results within two weeks. Treatment usually lasts between 2 to 4 months initially and lasts longer the more treatments a person has. Provided a person has another injection before their lines fully reappear, they should be able to maintain a wrinkle free appearance for the long term.
