What to expect when booking a home whitening treatment

When you book in a whitening consultation with your local Together Dental dentist, they will check your overall mouth health to see you are suitable for the treatment.

If suitable, the dentist will begin by taking a mould of your teeth, which will then be used to create the custom-fit whitening trays for you to take home.

Once your trays are ready for use, you’ll be given teeth whitening gel to take home with you. You will be instructed on how to use the gel and how much of the gel to put into your trays for each use.

Make sure to only use the whitening system as instructed by your dentist. Improper use of teeth whitening gel can cause gum irritation and tooth sensitivity.

What to expect when booking an in-chair whitening treatment

Once your dentist has agreed that you are suitable for in-practice whitening, you can begin the process. Your dentist will also note any existing dental work, such as veneers, crowns and composite bonding, as they will not respond to the tooth whitening agents.

The procedure starts with the dentist prepping your lips and gums. They will apply a rubber-like gel to protect the gums, leaving only the teeth exposed, ready for whitening. The dentist will then apply the whitening gel directly to the teeth and set it under the light for 15 minutes.

The gel is applied for three sets of 15-minute sessions of light activation, totally a time of 45 minutes. At the end of the treatment, your dentist will show you the results in one of our Together Dental mirrors. The overall treatment time is approximately 90 minutes.

How long does Zoom whitening treatment last?

The results of your whitening treatment will depend on your diet. We recommend trying to avoid coloured foods and drinks such as red wine, curries and an excessive amount of tea/coffee.
