Have a More Comfortable Dental Visit with Sedation Dentistry
We know some people find going to the dentist in Southend a pretty daunting prospect, particularly if they haven’t been for a while and strongly suspect that treatment is quite urgently needed. However tempting it can be to put off dental visits, we’d like to urge you not to and even if you feel very nervous or anxious we can help you. There is no need to worry if you haven’t been able to visit a dentist for a long time as we certainly never judge.
Southend Dental Care is a very friendly dental practice and we pride ourselves on having a warm and welcoming atmosphere. You will find we are all very easy to chat to about any dental problems and that includes dental fears. When you contact us, just let us know that you are nervous or anxious so we know to take extra care of you during your visit. There is no need to worry if you do need treatment as we can use sedation dentistry to keep you completely comfortable and relaxed.
How Sedation Dentistry Could Help You
There are two different types of sedation dentistry that you might find helpful. The first is inhalation sedation which is more often called laughing gas. This uses a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen and all you have to do is inhale the gas through a small comfortable mask that is placed over your nose. The gas takes effect within a few seconds and has a calming effect so you feel relaxed and comfortable during treatment. You will still be perfectly aware of what is happening around you, but the laughing gas will help you remain peaceful while we carry out necessary treatment. The really nice thing about laughing gas is that it is soon eliminated from your body once your treatment is over. This does mean that you can drive yourself home if required and this is the only type of sedation where this is possible.
If this doesn’t sound quite enough, then you can opt to have intravenous sedation. This is where a sedative is injected intravenously in a controlled manner right throughout your treatment. You will feel deeply relaxed and although you will be able to respond to our dentist in Southend, it is extremely unlikely that you will remember much, if anything about the treatment once everything is completed. This can be an ideal solution if you haven’t been to a dentist for a while and perhaps need quite a bit of work to restore your dental health, or if you require longer appointments maybe to have dental implants placed. After treatment, we will keep you with us for a short while just to make sure you are okay before you can go home. You will need someone to take you home as you cannot drive after intravenous sedation.
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
Our dentist in Southend will take enormous care to ensure you are kept safe during treatment and you will be continually monitored. Before having any type of sedation dentistry, we will need to know your medical history to make sure sedation dentistry is appropriate and safe.
