Are You Nervous about Visiting the Dentist? Let Us Help You
Are You Nervous about Visiting the Dentist? Let Us Help You. Dental fears and phobias are extremely common and can develop for a variety of reasons ranging from bad experiences with a previous dentist or even learned behaviour from parents who had their own dental anxieties. Often people with these fears will know they are being completely irrational but feel unable to overcome them. If this affects you then we can help.
Gentle Dental Care for Nervous Patients
If you haven’t visited a dentist for a while due to fears or anxieties then we’d like to reassure you of a completely different experience when you visit our comfortable, warm and relaxing dental practice. Our friendly dental team are hugely experienced in helping patients who feel at all anxious and you will find we are extremely sympathetic. We also have a number of different ways we can help you overcome your fears and phobias so you can receive dental treatment. Initially, our dentist in Southend will want to chat to you about your anxieties to try to discover the cause.
There are several things we can do to help you feel more comfortable while receiving dental treatment as for some people the feeling of being helpless in a dental chair can be deeply unnerving. Just knowing you can stop any dental treatment by raising your hand can be enormously reassuring and comforting. Our dentist in Southend will also make sure that any treatment proceeds at a pace you feel comfortable with and over time we hope to help you conquer your fears. In the meantime dental sedation can help tremendously.
Dental Sedation for a Completely Comfortable Experience
Here at Together Dental Southend we are able to offer conscious sedation. This can be in the form of intravenous sedation or Nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas. You may have already experienced laughing gas and it is a very gentle form of sedation as all you need do is inhale the gas through a small comfortable nose mask and it takes effect within just a few seconds.
You will still be awake and conscious during treatment but will feel relaxed and comfortable. The nice thing about Nitrous oxide is that once the gas is turned off then it is soon eliminated from your body and you will be able to drive yourself home.
Intravenous sedation is more complex but can be hugely beneficial for anyone with deep-seated fears and phobias and it’s also extremely good for someone who needs quite a lot of dental treatment. When using intravenous sedation, our dentist in Southend can provide a substantial amount of treatment during just one appointment.
The sedative is intravenously applied in a controlled manner and while you may still be awake, you will feel drowsy and deeply relaxed. Once the treatment is over it’s unlikely that you will remember anything that happened and it may feel as if just a few moments have passed.
If you haven’t visited a dentist for a while then we’d love to help you and will work with you to restore your dental health and your smile. Call us today on 01702 465000.
