Afraid of the Dentist? Make This the Year You Overcome Your Fears

Are you afraid of the dentist? We know dental fears and phobias are an extremely common problem so you are definitely not alone. However did you know how much we can do to help you deal with these fears and to overcome your anxieties? If you haven’t visited a dentist in a while then you may be pleasantly surprised to find out how a newer and much gentler style of dentistry could help you.

Gentle Dental Care to Help You Overcome Your Fears

When you first visit South Benfleet Dental Care, you will find our dentist and our dental team will take the time to chat to you to discover why you feel anxious or nervous when visiting a dental clinic. Often these fears and phobias can be extremely long-lived, perhaps as a result of a bad experience as a child and some dental fears can be learned.

If your parents were afraid of visiting the dentist then it’s very easy for these fears to be inadvertently passed onto a child. Whatever the reason, we can help. When you first step through our doors, you’ll notice that our clinic has been designed for your comfort. It is a warm, welcoming and very friendly place and we are all here to help you.

How We Can Help

If you do feel nervous then there are a number of different things we can do to help you overcome your fears. The first is to make sure that any dental treatment proceeds at a pace you feel comfortable with and you will be able to stop treatment at any time simply by raising your hand. For some people this might be enough to help them receive essential dental care, but for others, dental sedation might be the solution. With conscious sedation you will still remain awake and aware during treatment but will feel deeply relaxed.

About Sedation Dentistry

There are lots of different forms of dental sedation that can help and options range from laughing gas or Nitrous oxide, to intravenous sedation. Laughing gas is relatively mild and wears off very quickly and this is the only form of dental sedation where you can drive yourself home. This is also called inhalation sedation as the Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small comfortable mask. It takes effect very quickly so you will soon feel relaxed and comfortable.

Intravenous sedation is administered continuously during the course of your appointment and afterwards you should find you remember very little if anything about treatment. Intravenous sedation can be ideal for anyone who requires more complex oral surgery, for example to remove badly impacted wisdom teeth or who for someone who needs quite a lot of treatment to restore dental health.

The great thing about oral sedation is that a dentist in South Benfleet will be able to complete much more treatment during just one appointment. Before giving any type of sedation, every patient is carefully assessed for suitability and you can rest assured we do everything possible to keep you safe and you will be continually monitored at all times.
